Here are 5 different places to get delicious tacos in Old Town Scottsdale.
The first thing that comes to my mind when thinking of Southwestern food is: TACOS! (Margaritas are a close second)
Below is a list of my favorite taco spots. Not to be confused with my favorite Mexican/Southwest restaurants. This is tacos only.
There are so many great places in the Valley to enjoy delicious Mexican food (most all of these have tacos on the menu), so list could easily become overwhelming. I decided on these restaurants because I wanted to give options that are all different from each other. Picking only 5 places was really tough, but I put them into categories because I wanted to give you some variety. You know, because there isn't just one occasion for tacos.
These are not in any order, I love all these places, and they are located in downtown Scottsdale.
1) The Go - To
Everything I have eaten at Barrio Queen is delicious. From the guacamole and queso to the margaritas, ceviche and of course the TACOS! The restaurant is located near the water front and the shops on Fifth Ave. It has a great patio and gorgeous Dia de Los Muertos decor. The food is a bit more upscale vs traditional. But it is my "go-to" because it doesn't disappoint. The only downside is other people love it just as much as I do, and it gets busy.
2) The Old Favorite
Established in 2004, Loco Patron has been a local favorite for almost 20 years. The tacos consistently win awards at the Arizona Taco Festival and the patio offers some of the best people watching in all of Downtown. It has recently become the only Mexican craft brewery in the valley. Loco Patron offers great Happy Hour deals as well as Taco Tuesday specials. The reviews for the Scottsdale location all have the same theme: "Food is great! The service can be spotty, but you can never go wrong with a seat at the bar", I fully agree!
3) Fun and Trendy
Although small, Diego Pops is bold. With bright, modern design you feel cool just walking in the door. It has a great indoor/outdoor bar and a cocktail selection to match. The food is traditional but with a trendy twist, so this is a spot for those willing to try something new. The brussel sprout nachos and the Sonoran hot dog are my favorites! Located on a small lot, on a busy corner, parking can be a bit tricky.
4) The Quick Bite
Located in the heart of the nightlife district Mr. Mesquite is a walk up taco stand. Since this is such a quick and easy option, it is great for an afternoon snack, or a late night bite since they are open until 3am. The food is fast and tasty and sometimes that's all you need!
5) The Traditional
Located in Old Town Scottsdale (the actual Old Town part), this place really does have the charm and feel of the old west. The food is tasty and everything you would expect from a traditional Mexican restaurant. They also boast an impressive tequila selection. This spot is casual and kid friendly so it's the perfect place to pop into after exploring the Old Town shops or Civic Center park.
